Partnering with Smart Works Scotland

As the month of International Women’s Day, March is a significant time for Smart Works Scotland, a charity that supports unemployed women with the coaching, clothing and confidence to get the job and transform their lives. We are delighted to have partnered with the charity this month by providing their clients with C.Nicol handbags for job interviews.

Smart Works Scotland, which has been operating for just over 10 years, provides free high-quality clothing and professional coaching to unemployed women. Many have faced significant challenges in their lives, from long-term unemployment to domestic violence or resettling in a new country.

Recent research published by Smart Works shows that women need help more than ever.  According to the Smart Works Unemployment Index, which reflects conversations with more than 4,900 unemployed women from across the UK, it can be concluded that the state of the job market has deteriorated significantly. For example, on average women last year applied for 38 jobs, and 27% applied to over 50 roles unsuccessfully.

63% of the women who have an appointment with Smart Works, get the job within one month of their visit. After their appointment, 97% of clients feel more confident in their new outfit and 95% feel more confident to answer interview questions more effectively. Smart Works’ impact is truly transformational.

Our donation of handbags will form part of the Smart Works dressing service, helping women feel ready to step into their interviews with confidence. Women who use the service, will be gifted our bags completely free of charge, to help them feel their best and give them that extra boost to help them succeed at job interviews.

If you’d like to support Smart Works Scotland, there are plenty of ways to do so—whether by donating clothing, donating money, volunteering your time, or spreading the word. Every act of generosity contributes to a brighter future for women across Scotland.
