Meet Bethan

The C.Nicol Scotland community is at the heart of my brand and business. In a new interview series, I’m learning more about the people carrying C.Nicol bags here in Scotland and around the world.

First up is North Berwick-living, London-working law partner and long-time customer, Bethan Waters.

I grew up in a tiny village in North Wales and my family were all involved in agriculture. I went to London and Paris for university, studying English law and French law.  I then lived in London (after stints in Argentina and Tokyo) for about a decade before getting married to a Scotsman and moving out of London to be nearer to the landscape and Wales and Scotland. COVID allowed us to escape permanently and we love our new commute!

I now live in North Berwick in East Lothian but work in London. We moved up in lockdown and I love its beautiful beaches, the majestic Bass Rock, all the wildlife and the accessibility to the rest of Scotland.  My favourite things to do are long beach walks with our dog and up the law, usually with a steampunk coffee, paddleboarding looking for puffins and dolphins and wild camping on a quiet part of the beach in summer.

I'm a banking law partner in Farrer & Co one of London’s oldest law firms. I have to travel to London most weeks but when not working, I'm a mum to an 11-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy and a wife to another lawyer.  I love walking, any kind of watersports, cycling, travelling, skiing and just being outside.

What do your weekends look like?
I try and swim in the sea every Saturday morning when I can. Usually taxiing my kids to sports events or playdates and long dog walks along the beach. I also love travelling to the Highlands or the Islands (or anywhere really!) when we can. Occasionally if I have time to myself, I like to sneak to Edinburgh to look around the (grown up!) shops and the museums and galleries.

Plans for the year ahead?
We are about to go to Egypt on holiday and have accidentally booked holidays to Greece and skiing too OOPS! But also looking forward to more of the summer in Scotland.

Your favourite bag?
I have a Holly and an Evie and I bought my mum a mini Lily half-moon. I love them because they are unusual, they are Scottish, a female-run company, they are fabulous quality and I get loads of compliments on them. They are also not ridiculously priced.
